Cocoa Tailgators Name Andrew Dixon as Head Coach

COCOA, FL — The Cocoa Tailgators are proud to announce the hiring of Andrew Dixon as the team’s Head Coach for the upcoming season. With a deep-rooted passion for the game and decades of playing and coaching experience, Dixon brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and global baseball perspective to the organization.

Originally born in Jamaica and raised in New York, Dixon developed his love for baseball and football at an early age. He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1982 before continuing his baseball career at Norfolk State University on a scholarship. During his collegiate career, Dixon made a significant impact—earning multiple MVP honors, setting a stolen base record, and finishing second in the nation in batting average.

In 1986, Dixon’s talent earned him selection in the 17th round of the MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants. He went on to play six professional seasons within the Giants and Milwaukee Brewers organizations, where he set an impressive benchmark by recording 73 stolen bases in back-to-back seasons. His playing career also included time in winter leagues across Mexico and Venezuela, further expanding his experience on the international stage.

Following his professional career, Dixon has dedicated himself to coaching and mentorship. He has worked extensively with travel and high school programs, focusing on developing young athletes, particularly those from underserved communities. He will also be coaching at the collegiate level during the spring, continuing his commitment to player growth and advancement.

“I’m excited for this opportunity with the Cocoa Tailgators,” said Dixon. “Baseball has given me so much, and I want to pass that on. My goal is simple—help these players learn, develop, compete, and return to their schools as better ballplayers and better individuals.”

Dixon emphasized a player-first approach centered on growth and enjoyment of the game. “I expect our guys to compete hard, have fun, and truly embrace the experience. If they leave better than they came, we’ve done our job.”

As the Tailgators prepare for their inaugural season, Dixon is eager to help lay the foundation for long-term success. “It’s an honor to represent this organization in its first year. With strong planning and commitment, the future is very bright.”

The Cocoa Tailgators look forward to an exciting season under Dixon’s leadership as they continue to build a competitive and community-driven program.
